Which drugs are illegal?
The law surrounding drugs can be incredibly complex, which is why you should speak to an expert. Controlled drugs are split up into three classes:
- Class A drugs include heroin, ecstasy, cocaine, methadone, LSD and magic mushrooms
- Class B drugs include cannabis, amphetamines, barbiturates, codeine, mephedrone and some synthetic cannabinoids
- Class C drugs include tranquilisers, ketamine, anabolic steroids, GHB and benzyl piperazines
Penalties on drugs offences are wide ranging from a fine up to life imprisonment. They will depend on a number of factors including; the offence, the classification, role in the offence as well as the quantity and purity of the drug, whether you have any previous convictions as well as other aggravating or mitigating factors.
Our criminal law defence solicitors can help with any type of drug offence.
