Mr N is a dentist who was accused of dishonesty in relation to record-keeping at his former place of work. In 2014, despite being absent from proceedings and having requested an adjournment of the same proceedings, Mr N was erased from the dental register by the GDC Professional Conduct Committee. As Mr N’s registered address was in Scotland, he appealed this decision to the Court of Session in Scotland; this being the equivalent of a High Court Appeal in England and Wales.
Mr N and the GDC settled the appeal out of court and the matter was remitted back to the GDC’s Professional Conduct Committee in order that this Committee could decide on sanction, the allegations against Mr N having already been found proved along with impairment of Mr N’s fitness to practise at the 2014 hearing. At the remittal hearing, Mr N received a reprimand and his name has now been restored to the GDC register without restriction.
Charlotte Ellis of Burton Copeland acted for Mr N providing advice in the initial stages in relation to the appeal and represented him at the GDC Fitness to Practise remittal hearing.
